Step 1: Incubate the seeds
- Soak squash seeds in 30-35°C warm water for 6-8 hours, then remove the seeds, wash them with clean water, and incubate them overnight in a damp towel at 20–25°C. Check that the seeds are cracked, then sow them in the potting soil.
Step 2: Sow the squash seeds
- Dig a hole about 1cm deep and then sow the soaked squash seeds into the sowing pot tray; sow 1-2 seeds in each hole, and cover with a thin layer of soil.
- After sowing, spray water on the soil to keep it moist. Place the nursery pot next to a sunny spot to promote seed germination. Can be sprinkled Basudin on the soil to prevent harmful ants.
Step 3: Plant the seedlings
- After sowing squash seeds for about 7-10 days, the seedlings will have 2-3 leaves; then, bring them to plant in the field, or plant them separately in each pot, foam box, or large plastic bucket
- Plants should be planted in the afternoon when the sun is out. When planting is finished, it is necessary to water twice a day and cover to create shade for the first week for the seedlings to recover.
Step 4: Take care
- No need to water it much; water it twice a day for the first 7–10 days after planting seedlings to recover, then water it once every 2–3 days.
- After the seedlings have grown about 3–4 true leaves, use DAP diluted with water to irrigate the base of the plant; avoid watering the leaves. Combine weeding and root cultivation.
Step 4: Harvest
- After planting for about 3 months, squash will be harvested, which can be done in several batches depending on the care. However, if you want to harvest old fruit for storage, you can wait more than 3 months when the old fruit has a hard yellow skin, a white chalky skin, and a yellow stem.
